My Golf unhappy
« on: 15 October 2010, 13:01 »
Just got it back from the garage.

Needs new front tyres, new wheel bearing, welding on both sills, tracking, front suspension.

So unfortunately its time for it to go to a new owner who has the time and  money to put it right :(

Cant you do it gradually yourself?

I mean you should always budget for new tyres!

is the wheel bearing front or rear? Rears are quite cheap to do.

Thats not a massive list, as Len said do it in drips and drabs.

You can get budget tyres for about £30 a side, tracking should be about £15, wheel bearing itself is less than £10. Front suspension, i'm guessing you only need shocks which aren't really expensive and not much of a job to fit. Should get change from £200 for the lot, depending on how much you do yourself.

The sills are the expensive bit, there's a bloke near me that will do it for about £60-75 a side, i'm not sure how that compares to other places  :undecided:

front bearing has gone. and the MOT is due in a months time, so its unlikely i can find the funds to get all the work done in that time. So im going to sell it, its too good to just scrap, engine still goes well and the interior is really tidy. Just needs somebody who has time to fix it. I dont have any because im a student and i cant be without a car either :(

so the hunt for another golf begins

I found Toyo T1-R's for £30 on Camskill - good price for great tyres

but the other stuff is a little expensive - maybe it is time to move on

Why not try and sell it on eBay - someone will want it

+1 spares or repair, I am sure someone will buy it.
