accelerator cable

just replaced mine as the old one snapped on my gti 8v, the bit that sits in the bulkhead and goes down the pedal is really loose fitting, it keeps getting caught up etc and pedal is sitting almost on the floor, should ther be a rubber grommet here?? its the last hole before the cable enters the car under the scuttle panel, vw couldnt find a grommet on there system but its so loose in the hole lol
plz help as i gota drive to chelmsford tomorrow night dont wanna break down lol

yes there should be a grommet. halfords sell a box of assorted sizes. maybe one of those would help. I almost destroyed my grommet when removing the old cable, but it kinda works again even though it's in peices.
