Had a great first weekend with the new GTI although no chance to give her a wash and take photos yet with all this rain.

I've noticed something strange with the service computer. The car is set for long life servicing and is just 6 months old with 7800 miles on the clock. But the service indicator says service due 1400 miles (one thousand four hundred) or 190 days. When i first read it i thought it was 14,000 miles but no, it's 1,400. That seems odd as it means my car first service will be due at 9200 miles. Isn't that way too soon?

LL servicing will depend on a number of factors (driving style, journey types, oil quality) and it's not uncommon to hear of GTIs asking for a service under 10k miles.

If it was my motor I would just give it an oil change!! The servicing regime is a money racket by VW  :smug:

What have I done wrong?  Had the car a year, about 11,000 miles, had a postcard and a couple of phone calls from the dealer, but the car itself hasn't said a word about a service.

Ariel the Pug used to demand one every 9,000 miles.  Is there something Prospero isn't telling me?

Has anyone on the forum chosen Long Life Service for their GTI? I do rack up a bit of mileage annually, so was thinking would this be a viable option. I only have the occasional blast on the A roads and rarely test the limits of the car

I ran my MK5 on longlife, average service ended up about 13000 so not much different, sold with 75000 on the clock and never had any problems.

Thanks for the comments but i still dont get it. Assuming my average 200 miles a week, it means my car registed 1st April this year (currently 7800 miles) will need its first service at 9200 miles when only 7 months old?!! I expected the intervals to be around 15,000 miles or 18 months as per other cars i've owned.  Surely this cant be right?

Just spoke to the supplying dealer. They told me that the car will need servcing at 20,000 miles or 2 years whichever comes first and to ignore the service computer as the car is set for long life. Happy days!

It's good pratice to do an oil change rather than wait 20,000 miles IMO
