everytime I turn the car off the trip and the clock resets.

Does anyone have any experience of this.

I also have a problem with the central locking it doesnt work at all I have checked all the fuses and they all seem ok could it be a relay as there seems to be no action when using the lock manually with the key.

The clocks resetting could be down to a battery fault, have you had the battery tested ??  As for the central locking check the pump in the boot

Ok I have finally looked at the central locking and can see nothing wrong apart from the polystyrene housing that the pumps in seem to have melted a little could this mean the pumps burnt out or does it happen to them all.

Not sure Mate as I have never had the need yet to look at mine. Check the part number of your pump as I believe there are two different types for the Golf GTI. A cheap second hand pump should cure that problem. Any joy with the clocks resetting problem ??

I have a couple of ideas but I'm getting a sparky to look on payday. My first thing I'm suspect about is the ignition barrel as I have found if I wiggle the key while it's running I can cause the car to stop running and it then kicks the fuel gauge into working for a while. My only other theory is that at the ignition there is a loss of permanent live so when I turn off the ignition everything loses power and resets to zero all apart from the permanent odometer that works perfectly.

  • Hello, my name is John and I'm a dub addict.
coincidentally the dash and the cl share the same fuse, #21 ;)

Cheers for that after a bit of searching and messing around I have found that the fuses had been removed. I guess that's a lesson learned to never trust your dad to check for you lol. So the reason for 2 missing fuses the 21 fuse was missing because the cl only works 3 of the doors and not the boot plus it runs on for about 40 seconds and can start up again when it feels like it. So for now I have unplugged the cl pump and my dash is back working great.

So anyone have an idea what's next with the cl is it a new pump or lines that's needed.

Sounds like the pump really as it would be a massive coincidence if three of the door pipes had come off at the same time. You could get a cheap pump for around 10/15 quid.

Sounds like a wiring problem to me, probably when a previous owner has bodged a H/U install.
So I would get that checked first and also check the air hoses to the doors that dont work.
If pump works 3 doors then cant see how the pump is at fault.
