Disconnecting the battery
« on: 14 September 2010, 23:31 »
Hi there folks I am thinking about disconnecting the battery on the car. What are the risks?

Will I lose the settings on the car?

I have a map on the car. Will I lose it?

Or more simply, if I unplug the battery and leave it for half and hour will the car be the same when I re connect it all and start it

I have a map in my car but I don't use it.

It shouldn't make any difference to the ecu settings. The radio code isn't needed either as VW's today, when you connect the battery backup it checks which radio you have and if it matches the code in the ecu the radio should work. I asked about the radio code when I picked mine up. Thats in the service database but you shouldn't need it. I said its my car my radio I want the code so they gave it to me. They said you would need the code if you took that radio out and fitted it in another car.

Weird that Das Auto. Maybe they flashed an update on the car? I have never had any problems with disconnecting the battery before with a remap. Not sure if this will be the same on the Golf but on my Polo I had to fully open and close the windows (keeping my hand on the switch) to get the auto close/open working again. Not sure if this was to reset the limits?
