Mines not chipped or the older Edition 30 engine that are designed for 98ron, i don't notice a difference myself. :embarassed: I have seen a couple of rolling road tests of GTI mk6s using 95 and 98 Ron and theres only a couple of bhp in it but that could simply be down to the two cars used production and miles differences.
I have used both versions of the shell as a pass a shell garage on the way to work.

Re mapped or not. There is a noticable difference.

The only question is whether or not the extra cost is worth it.

To me it is.

Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

Interesting, is there any evidence that the EA888 adapts to 98RON? (knock sensor that will exceed 95RON etc)

I've read the engine was developed as a world engine capable of using low fuel grades e.g 91RON is the USA.

Here is the training manual if you want a nice bedtime read.

No problem, it would be good to get an absolute answer on the pros of using 98RON, the training manual doesnt point to any.

iirc both the older and newer engines have knock control. the mk5 GTI was set up to run on 98Ron or higher (this is stated on the sticker inside the petrol cap).

The mk6 is set up to run on 95ron. I do believe after a remap you can change settings to specify the car is running on the better stuff. Although i would be suprised if the mk6 didnt have knock control also.

Momentum 99 for me also  (no v-power locally)

I understand.

The upset, grief and bad feeling will be easier to live with though as you'll have a big silly grin on your face.

The grin would soon fade if the engine gets damaged and the warranty is void or he has a bump and the insurance won't pay out  -of course the latter won't occur becuase all you people having remaps and other mods tell your insurance companies about them don't you?

My old mk5, and now the R both love V power. I believe that v power is now a 99 RON fuel where previously it was 98. Many of the others top of the range fuel is actual only about 97, bar the Tesco one. Not sure about how many nice additives Tesco will be using, so I stick to Shell for now.

Both my engines are the old type, not really sure your MK6's would not really benefit the extra RON. On mine though, you could definatley tell the difference, they got quite wheezy on 95.

In Germany they've got V Power Racing 100, which has 5% ethanol in it!!!! Boy that stuff is great. Wish they had it here. I remember being a bit shocked at how much quicker I had to change gears! It caught me out a few times and I redlined the poor thing a little too much.

I do remember a thread on here at some point where someone confirmed the tesco 99 stuff comes from the same refinary as the v-power fuels. Basically tesco buy and then rebrand it as their own.
