A six speed box will give a higher top speed

it wouldnt, power is whats needed, a standard 150 would never max out 5th.

and isnt the 6 speed just a shorter shift with same final drive?

Sorry for bit of a hijack but ive only took my car to 115-120 but when i get there the steering feels all wooley like its starting to snake down the road just wondered if anyone had any ideas all the bushes seem to look fine visually..

An o2j 5 speed is 23.9mph/1000rpm, so with a 6700rpm rev limit gives 160mph theoretical maximum.

With a max rev limit of 8200rpm(big turbo guys), you get 196mph

An 02m 6 speed is 24.6mph/1000rpm, so this gives 165mph, and 202mph

Steering does seem to ge very light higher up., when my golf was stock we took it for a top speed run and it started snaking and spun off at 120mph, now lowered and remaped etc it feels alot more safer at 120, however at 130 the steering seems to get light and at 140 it feels like it wants to repeat the incident all over....

Not sure what effects the light steering as in my mates LCR mk2 at 170mph it just feels sturdy, same is said for the s3 at silly speeds.

My bushes and tracking are also fine, maybe some one might have an idea why steering goes very light higher up, like is it due to lift etc...?

Yer thats exactly right.. mine is relatively standard at the moment but i just get worried pushing it incase i lose control of the bleeding thing there must be a reason why the front is lifting up.. maybe if we go an adjustable splitter made up give us a bit of down force ??

Could be, I was discussing this with a mate as well, standard splitter gves it a boat shape which is why it may generate lift, but I think we need some physicists in the house, it's not good when you don't feel confident in your car, as long term this is becoming a low entry track toy for me. I know what I roughly want from it and whats left to do and some of the minor extra's it needs.

Asjustable splitters would be cool, its like the CTR boys get there little side wings, then more and more cars are getting rear diffusers and flat underbody's to accomadate better air flow. We are handicapped

We are only a few years behind people its not to bad.. i might try and get a R32 front bumper and get a carbon fibre splitter for that if i cant get one i might make one.. last year at trax there was a doge viper with a huge front carbon adjustable splitter it looked the bollocks
