Green Light to order so a couple of questions

Hi All,

It's my 1st post to the forum, so hoping for some help on the following questions 

The Golf GTD is on my company car list.  However I've been considering the GTI based on what I have currently (Mk5 GT Sport TSI 170) and the fact I rarely do any company mileage (12-15k per year and A road driving). 

I was provided with a demo MK6 to drive around in for the day last week, and tbh fell in love.  So I'm now in the position that I've been given the green light for the Golf GTI and informed it fits within my budget with 18" Shadows and Metallic Paint. 

1. What is the average mpg you are getting from the MK6 GTI on a combined run?  As mentioned I'm generally driving A Roads and will happily average 38MPG+ in the TSI.  So any feedback from anybody doing either Motorway or A Roads would be helpful. 

2. Any tips on colours?  My company would prefer Metallic/Pearlescent..I'd might be able to get away with Candy White, but the wife has just taken delivery of her new Polo in Candy White..So not sure if this might look a bit sad on the driveway!  I've been through some of the pics on here and really like the Carbon Grey, but likewise always thought the MK5 GTI looked great in Shadow Blue Metallic (Not seen one on a MK6 unless MK6 owners have pics?). 

3. I'll probably consider going with a couple of options which I'll have to contribute towards.  I'm favouring the RCD510 with Dynaudio, so would be great to hear from anybody who has gone with and can give either Positive/Negative feedback.  Additionally any other worthwhile options?

4. Order/Delivery lead time.  The dealer is quoting 10 weeks order - delivery lead time.  Although I've heard some pretty bad stories.  Luckily my car isn't due until May 2011, so even with 6 month lead time I can order Oct/Nov..My main point here is that I don't want to order to early and find that VW change the Spec dramatically, which means I lose out!

Sorry for so many questions, would be great if I could get some feedback on the above.

I believe the leasing/finance companies generally prefer metallic colours due to the perceived higher resale value but I'd have thought that wouldn;t necessarily apply to all makes/models.  Sports cars seem to suit non-metallic white/red more than others so I can't see it making a huge difference at the end of the day. 

Options are very individual in terms of priority (soe list Xenons are their favourite option, others it's ACC etc etc) - what I did was create a spreadsheet (yes, I am very very sad) with a list of every option/option pack and listen them in order of priority for me.  Then I set a max budget for options and selected the top x options that fit into this price.. mabye eliminating an option/pack where I could get several slightly less desirable options for the same cost etc (like a points system I guess - funnily neither xenons or ACC factored very high on my list).

Lead times are a bit confusing - some have reported 6-months and more in extreme cases.  I ordered a GTD at the end of July and I've been informed it should be with me by the end of the first week in November..  so a little over 3 months which seems very reasonable.. that said, I don't know how much the different in lead times will vary between the GTD and GTi.

About 31 MPG average...maybe up as high as 33 if taking it really easy.

Snoopy had Shadow blue...I'm sure he'll be along with pics. Looks good.
Personally, I don't think there is a bad colour for it.

RCD + Dynaudio is superb. Possible a better sound than RNS510 + Dynaudio...highly recommended.
ACC will get a good few votes too.

The 2011 cars are already being built and have the nice-to-haves over the 2010 cars - LED rear lights.
Worry not...just get it ordered!

As for options...I'd say sunroof is entirely personal.
Xenons and ACC are highly desirable...and not easily retro-fittable.

Personally, I'd pick a GTI on 18s, RCD510+ Dynaudio and Winter Pack...the next to go on would be Xenons and ACC (based on living with them and worth vs cost when actually using them.
After that...it's all down to budget.

Me being one...and I'm sorely tempted to rip it out and flog it.
I don't use the Nav as I have a Snooper Indago for cameras and Nav, I don't use the HD for music, I use a big USB stick, and I still don't think it sounds as good as the RCD.
I certainly wouldn't pay £1600+ for it...at least with retro-fitting you can remove it again, if you want.

we got 35.2 mpg overall average and 47.3 mpg on our 'economical driving' run, with the 6-speed manual Mk 6 GTI

Agree with Ess_Three especially regarding RNS510 and RCD510 sound quality. The best sound is from the ugly duckling RCD310. I know as I had one. Having said this, my second RNS510* sounds pretty good. They seem a bit variable IMO.
Don't forget the Winter Pack: you get heated seats etc.
ACC is a must.
I get an average of 22mpg with London driving.
All colours are good. White and Red really stand out. Shadow Blue is very, very classy. These 3 colours are my favourite.
