brakes 8v to 16v(master cyclinder) ?

hello people
ok ive bought a 16v golf that started life as an 8v on a 91 plate (this i diddnt know when bought)
ive been slowly changing bits to make it a proper 16v (looms etc)today thought id look over the brakes, only had 3months or so  thought they looked different to 16v in the yard that im robbing for bits ,so ive changed over to the bigger, i belive 256 brakes(well done one side for now do other side next weekend) i wont be driving her yet .having trawled through search facility. is it likely that il need to change master cyclinder to 22mm one, and is this a big job, plus am i right in thinking i dont have to touch back brakes as there standed on both 8 and 16v 90spec?thanks in advance .max

8v and 16v rears are the same

Yes, change the MC if it hasn't been done already, it will stop a sponge'y brake.

Change it if you can but I run 256 brakes on the standard 8v MC. It's perfectly fine IMO, stops lovely.
