The sub is fitted in front of the ridge on the flat floor under the seat i.e. under the forward section of the seat.

When I have some time, I am going to use some pink, white noise and tone sweeps to set-up the whole system using a Bruel and Kjaer sound level meter with 1/3 octave band filters, plus some listening tests to finely balance the system to my taste. Will need to balance the system when the car is mobile so have to get a pal to operate some of the stuff.
Over to you Snoops!

you had heard his - how does it compare to your set up ?

Right, you are going to get me into real sh!t if I get this post wrong.

I heard Steve's system without the sub-woofer and it was not to my liking. Told him so at the time. The sub-woofer has transformed it. No doubt. It sounds smooth, dynamic and very clean. Loved it. No question an absolutely worthwhile upgrade. It is now a really great sounding system. I loved it. He needs to get some good Classical CDs to show it off!

Regarding mine: Well, without the sub there was a horrible upper bass boom with no bass extension. The mid-range clarity was hopeless as the paper coned bass-mid speakers tried to do too much. The sound was too mushy. It was a bit, how should I put it, oh well, fcuked! But I felt it to be better than the Dynaudio for my ears. +

With my system, and with the installation of the underseat sub-woofer, the transformation is truly incredible. Probably more so than with Steve's system. But this is only an educated (? ) guess as I have not heard them side by side. The bass is very clean and extended. I can hear the bass notes sounding rythmic for the first time and the mid and high freqs are truly clean and quite beguiling. The system has fabulous attack and is very exciting yet musical. The upper bass honk has disappeared completely. But the most significant change has been the unbelievable improvement in treble extension and clarity together with a highly detailed mid-range.

Both systems have been transformed with the sub-woofer installation.

Go for it, NOW.

So this is my answer and you may or may not read between the lines. Both sound really good, at last. But I spent less and got a sub placed inside the car, just where I wanted it.

I forgot ...
The sub-woofer can also be installed in the passanger footwell. This was the other option. I went to Auto Audio in Park Royal, London.

The dynaudio amp is under the passenger seat so any new sub would need to go under the driver seat or in the boot as in MrP's car.

Cheers for that - did auto audio say exactly where they could have put it in the passenger footwell,
i.e. would it have been visible ? - I,m thinking sort of under the glovebox area ? - guess the best bet is to pop down to my local car audio specialist for advice/options

Yes, around the glove box area. It would be practically invisible. My only worry was that the bass power would produce unwanted rattles/vibrations.
All the best.

Sounds good - do you know how they they wired this in to the factory head-unit since there's no input for a sub?

Also surely any improvement in treble and mid-range is an illusion if you haven't made any other changes? IE amping / changing the standard speakers..? I mean no disrespect BTW I'm just thinking of what upgrade path to take myself, and if the the speakers don't need to be changed your route seems quite cost effective. That pioneer sub has it's own amp correct? So surely the factory speakers running off the head unit will be producing the exact same sound as before? It's not even as if they are relieved of there bass duties as surely they have no way of knowing there's a sub fitted. Unless you've made some other changes also?

Bass control on the RNS 510 is reduced to near max, the sub's crossover freq and level adjusted to get a good balanced sound. As the bass-mid door speakers are not producing much bass anymore, the whole system sounds cleaner and seems to go louder with less distortion.
