mk2 to mk3 suspension

does mk2 gti suspension kit fit a mk3 gti??

whats the difference between them as i've got my mk2 on the drive which im doing up and thats got all mk3 wide track. so im thinking it should fit?
im going to put coil overs on the mk2 i was thinking of putting the old kit off the mk2 on the mk3......

can anyone help me with this...

Yes but you need to swap the top mounts.

only asking as i just brought a second hand suspension kit for my mk3. it stated it was a 40mm drop but the car seems to be sitting the same height???

The mk3 is heavier than the mk2, so suspension for the mk3 would be designed to take more weight. Since your mk2 will be a lot lighter, it wont put as much pressure on the suspension, so it won't drop as far.
Sometimes you need to leave new suspension settle for a few days too.

there are differences in the mk3 front springs depending on the age, the early ones have mk2 diameter springs, the later ones have larger springs.  if its an early MK3 the MK3 top mounts will bolt right up, if its a later one you'll need to buy early MK3 GTI spring plates to fit them.

basically, what model is the mk3 and what age

you could just swap the MK2 setup straight onto the mk3 without changing anything though, they'll still fit. but the MK2 top mounts arnt as good as mk3. depends if you care about the mk3

the mk2 is a 91'H and the mk3 is a 96'P.......

the mk3 is my other half'f car which has the kids in so it needs to be safe.......

basically i've just fitted a second hand g-max 40mm kit(ebay vw salvage yard) to the mk3 and it still sits the same height
think maybe its got stock springs on upreated shocks.....

it'll be safe on the mk2 top mounts, just the mk3 gti ones are a bit better as they're stronger. the early mk3 non-gtis had mk2 top mounts on em anyway.  if you put brand new top mounts on before you swap it over it will be fine

if you want to put the mk3 gti top mounts on, you'll need the MK3 GTI threaded bushes and early upper spring plates, plus obviously the top mounts + bearings.  do a search in the vw parts section of ebay for 'lemforder' thats an oem supplier for VW and do the best quality top mounts & bushes.  usually theres a seller doing lemforder mk3 gti top mounts & bearings for a good price.
