Where in Kent are you?

Whack the head off and if you're near we can sort something out with the exhaust valves that will be bent.

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

Should have sourced the head now, £55 posted which I don't thinks too bad, checked engine number etc so should be a go'er. Will replace the head gasket etc too, get the new belt on and give it an oil change so hopefully it'll be sorted.
P.S "I will" means "the step dad will"

PM'd you Bellend (can't help but feel like I'm insulting you.......:grin:

Managed to source a cylinder head a while ago but my step dad hasn't fitted it yet. He had the old one off and said it definitely needs the replacement head put on, so I got all the other bits that needed replacing and he still hasn't finished!!!!

He's having trouble with the timing, I know the bottom "cog" has an arrow on it, that apparently lines up all OK, but according to the book, the dot on the cog on the head should line up at right angles with the back of the cylinder head?? Not sure that will make sense. But apparently the way it lines up is different to what it says in the book, because the valves are open?

All a bit vague - but the point is the bloody thing still isn't fixed so I'll have to post again when it is.

I was also going to buy a new clutch for the Golf next month and get that done at some point but I'm not sure if I will be able to afford it :(
It's only the thrust bearing gone but do want it fixed this side of Christmas really so HSBC might have to lend me the money in form of an overdraft if it comes to it!!

Step Dad is away no until Tuesday, so not expecting the car to be fixed until atleast Thursday, when it would have been off the road 3 weeks. What a waste of time paying insurance and road tax for a month!!!!

It's back!!! Drove it to town today to do some Christmas shopping and it runs so well, so much better than it ever has done so I'm well chuffed!! Means I don't have to walk to work in this sh!t too - unless it snows then I won't risk taking it out.

You'll see on pics I've got an aerial stump on the wing, so I managed to get a rubber grommit off eBay, then I'll put a roof aerial on like the 16v so that's to come.

Other than that, I replaced a duff interior switch, (blank one - Thanks Ken!) and got a bonnet prop clip (technical term) because I had a bit of wire to tie it down when the bonnet was down before.......so it was about time that got replaced.

So nothing too amazing to report, apart from it's back on the road and feels so much happier for it. Engine seems much more calm on idle and it's a much smoother drive so I'm pleased!

Cheers!

Might well need some work in the new year!

The thrust bearing on the clutch has gone, which doesn't really matter but it is annoying (the noise it makes!!) and now the exhaust which was new from the manifold in 2007 is blowing. So that'll need doing too. Could be anything from £50 for the new mid section to £188 for complete, but we'll see!

I've decided, I do eventually want a Bora, 1.9 TDi sport, but I'll have to bring myself to sell the Golf first and I doubt that'll happen any time in the next 12months if not longer.

Got the big GTI front bumper on and have the rear one which needs a bit of paint, so by May latest it'll be exactly how I want it! and with the decent weather I'll be able to keep it polished and looking good.

Bring on the summer!!!

Well, in my last post it ended bring on the summer, fooking right as well!

I went out today for my morning break, decided I'd sit in the car, put a CD on and relax for a bit......realised there's a lot of water in the rear footwell behind the passenger seat!! Not good!! I reckon it's where it was broken in to and the seal was tampered with on the back, it's letting water in, so my step dad (who does windscreens etc for a living) is going to have a look at it tonight and try and sort it out.

In the mean time, I'm going to have to try and get it dried out and I have no idea how that's going to happen just yet!! Lots of paper towels maybe!

On the plus side, I've got a clutch kit to go on (due to thrust bearing going) and it'll be going in to the garage beginning of February to have the exhaust looked at.

The clutch kit won't go on until the weather smartens up a bit, unless the clutch starts slipping and at the same time the rear bumper will be painted and fitted. Might try and get some pics later of the water in the back!
