The springs were the real deal, still boxed, each individually marked as Eibach.  However, were the springs in a matched box?  I simply don't know, I have to rely on the Ebay seller's accurate description.  In all honesty, I wouldn't have bought them unless they were described as being appropriate for the Mk3 GTi 16v.  But they could have always been re-boxed.

Might be worth getting the part numbers from the springs.

Well, I got hold of the guy who I bought the springs off and he's confirmed that they be these:

Eibach Pro-Kit Springs
Lowers Car by: Front - 30 mm / Rear: 30 mm

Car fitment
Volkswagen Golf III (1H) 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.0 GTI, 2.8 VR6, 1.9 SDI, 1.9 D, 1.9 TD/GT, 1.9 TDI From Years: 08.91 - 08.94

Now I've noticed there's an identical spring set available for models 09.94 - 09.97.  Mine is a 95 'M' plate.  I wonder if that's the issue?  I haven't had chance to read the serial numbers on the spring itself, but any thoughts in the meantime.  What changed at Yr 94?

The top spring plates on the front suspension changed in 1995.

Cheers mate, although I think my problem is with the rears.  Front appears nicely sorted, it's the phat ass that's bouncing around behind it
