Mk6 mfsw on a mk5 what are the downsides?

Hey folks,

I have a mk5 2005 Gti and since fitting my new head unit I really miss the mfsw my previous car had.

The solution of course is to buy a mfsw and a slip ring and controller.

Because my car is dsg I might as well get paddles as well while I'm

What are the downsides to fitting the mk6 mfsw?

Is cruise control unavailable by doing that?

I don't use the rns510 nor plan too ao I know the phone button and microphone button on the mk6 wheel will not work.

the major downside is it a total waste of of money and pretty pointless! spend the money on a remap!

Get the right mark of GTi steering wheel with mfsw setup.

Putting a mk6 wheel in a 5 looks stupid and doesnt go with the rest of the cars interior

Put your money on colour coding or remap

There's nothing pointless about having the stereo buttons on the steering wheel, it's extremely handy, and once you have been used to a car with them, it's pretty difficult to use one without.

The remap will be done but not for a while yet, my car's black it doesn't need colour coding IMO.

Steve > Agreed about getting the right wheel for the MK, just the MK6 wheel is easier to find thats all.

Since you have DSG but no paddles I'm guessing you have an early model GTI?  This being the case AFAIK you need additional items other than the wheel and slip ring: new steering wheel control module and possibly a newer CAN gateway.

Definitely. I'd save your money for something else, even though I'd miss steering wheel controls and would wanna get it working!

Hey folks, it's not really a case of me saving for something else, as to me, thats a priority to have MFSW, you could say I should have thought about that when buying the car but I got it for such a good price it doesn't matter having to spend a bit more to make it a MFSW.
If I had the money, I still wouldn't get a remap just yet, plenty of time for that, I just want to sort the car out with a cambelt, dsg oil & filter change now, then sort out the MFSW and do cruise control at the same time.

I won't need a CAN gateway upgrade, at the most a slip ring, SCM & MFSW with paddles, if im lucky I may get away without the SCM but I don't have VCDS to check my current one so im just assuming I haven't.

If you've got DSG and no paddles, then you are missing out on the fun!
