Kirk just drive the f*cking thing and enjoy it.

Your life around your car doesn't have to be this endless soap opera - an MOT's an MOT, if it needs work, short of welding then it just needs to be done and with the folks you know on here it *should* cost that much.

Caistor, I got the zinc blocks joke.

Anodes.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

In other news the car is now lower by 3cm all round, wheels fill the arches nicely now. Will get pics later. Also sorter out the scraping noise which was the tie rod end, which was on the right hand side. Turns out there was a tie rod end for left hand side used on the right side. All good now though.

I'm not scrapping it. If anything I'd sell it for the engine. But Dan you're right, I don't want to give up on it, I do need to get some seal work done though. Found out yesterday that they are a bit rusty. :embarassed:

Where / how bad is the rot pal?? (forgive me for not reading back over the whole thread)

noticed something about matt black, that would be a shame (IMO) - the grey ones are up their with the best colour

It's pretty bad. To the point that trying to jack it up at certain points reveals a lot of rust. I had to jack it up from the front corner where the seal joins the arch.

Ideally a respray in the same colour is what I'd want but I just don't have the money for that kind if thing at the moment, with the way the paint is now I don't feel great about doing anyhing to the car, however if I satin grey it it will be one colour all over which will look better than it is now. Then when I can afford a proper respray I can get it done, but that won't be for some time sadly.

I can totally understand how you feel RE the paint finish, kind of makes you loose the love for it ! iv been in that place before too..  gotta try see past it tho if you can.

As for the rot on the Sills?  not too much hassle for someone to weld those up (or even fit new ones), i dont even jack mine up on these parts, i use the rear beam for the back, and a similar part on the front - hard to explain, id have to get you a picture.
I do have to drive onto a gradual step of bits of wood to get my car high enough to get the jack under tho as the bit i put my jack on at the front is the lowest part under the car almost.  (this sounds like jibberish i know lol)
But it saves on any damage to the rust proofing on the underbody of the car which can then lead to rot down the line..  once you get yours sorted id follow this way too, ill try get u a pic

in the mean time try stay positive

I also try to avoid jacking mine up using the jacking points, mine were pretty mangled when I bought the car (especially the fronts), but there's no real sign of rot on them yet. I did notice a fair amount of bubbling around the rubber bung thats under the front seats, looks like I might some welding there sometime this year

I also know exactly what you mean about the paintwork, when mine was like this last year I felt pretty crap about the car:
