My Golf's Hesitating when under boost???
« on: 29 June 2010, 17:57 »
On way home tonight and when at full throttle with full boost all through the rev range i can feel a very slight hesitating, and once or twice i felt almost a very small misfire??

I thought i felt this the other day on motorway,

Any idea's of common problems? :undecided:

Most likely is that you have a dodgy spark plug, failed that it could be a coil pack on the way out.  I'm suffering the same very occassionally and after lots of research these are the most common causes.  I'm taking it to my dealer thursday to see if it's recorded any faults.  If it hasn't I'll try changing spark plugs and take it from there

No Fault codes!!

Driving home tonight was worse, it was holding back though the whole rev range!!!

PCV has been replaced under warranty,  How about the DV?

My understanding is that it will definately log a fault if it suffers boost loss from the DV.  Spark plugs and coils often don't produce faults at the early stages.  My money would be on the spark plugs.  Were they oem you changed them for? quite a few people have changed them and then noticed hesitation a few months later and simply changing the plugs again has fixed it, it seems the tfsi is very sensitive with spark plugs

Let us know if you find a fix. Took mine in today, no fault codes and he set it idling with vag.com looking at the 4 cylinders and everything was perfect. Said could be early coil or spark plug failure but run it til it gets worse or I may be wasting money changing things with no fix. I'm starting to think mine is maybe dv failing. Feels like boost is slipping slightly? Thing is, sometimes it's perfect or could this just be that the dv sits properly and retains boost sometimes and fails other times?

Ive still got no fault codes,

Ive had DV replaced under warranty cause I had no boost a while back, But I think im going to replace PCV valve today, its a bit lumpy on tick over.

The misfire problem, im sure is coil pack slowly breaking down.

I'm having exactly the same issues.  The slight misfire/hesitation I have been experiencing has been occurring above 4k when "pressing on".  As a couple of you have seen no recorded faults I'll see if it gets any worse before dropping it into the garage for a diagnostic check, but to be on the safe side I'll keep a spare coil pack or two in the boot in case one suddenly goes.

Well at least I'm not alone. Think I'm gonna get spark plugs changed and go from there. Fingers crossed
