Im not a fan of the disaster struck gearbox but i do like the GTD a hell of a lot, i think i have even said more than once i should have really gone for the GTD if im truthful as its more my driving style now. (have been driving a VW TDi as a daily for the past few years anyway) and i also think the grey interior of the GTD is more in keeping with the series 2 mk1 GTIs grey stripped interior .I will admit the only reason i went GTI was i wanted another GTI to go with the mk1. Sad reason really, my hart ruled my head just

For what i use a car for and how i drive it would be pointless to own one anyway and when i look at the history of the V/VR and what VW have had to do because of them i would not on principle.

On topic.
I think personally i like a few of the GTD styling tweeks over the GTI's I like the more discrete rear exhausts, more in keeping with the GTI history, i like the grey on grey interior over the red bits, i use to like the vancover alloys better. I think the silver grill looks better on certain colours than the red.
I just found it a shame VW did not bring the GTD out with the twin turbo DI with say 210PS the same PS as the GTI. They may have started another cult car if they had.

Well, I never..... So much discussion on a supposedly 'bland' car and completely off topic. Scare mongers. They had to pick on something. Strange that

What a strange thing to say. It was on my shopping list as I could have fancied a GTD. As stated in an earlier post my last two cars ( and present one) have been diesels, so no axe to grind from me on that front. As I said previously DPF and EGR valve were my reasons for not getting the GTD and something people should be aware off as a potential issue

And back to topic if it's a problem for you.............I don't think it looks bland, it looks pretty good in my opinion

I've had DPF and EGR problems in my diesel Saabs over the last few years. And the Mk4 diesel Golfs I had were just s***. Totally unreliable and those engines (the PDs) didn't have these DPFs and what not so were supposedly more reliable.
But as I've said, the GTD is highly likely to be at the top of my shopping list in three years purely for the fuel saving costs on a 60 mile a day commute. I'll just keep the Mk 2 for the heart strings issue!!!

as against the number of Clutch and Dual mass flywheel failures on the manual cars   :laugh:

Not really true your statement Snoops.

Dsg is more reliable when compared to the very weak clutch and flywheel issues currently on the manual cars.

Twin clutch is the future
