To be honest i wasn't aware a mk2 1.8 driver existed, it may well be the answer to my problem. Does it only come as 4+E or do they come in 3 door aswell ? there doesnt seem to be many around mind.

all drivers are 4+E,  but 4+e is a gearbox   that was fitted to 3 and 5 door drivers
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

ahh i seeee. Thanks for filling me in haha well a 1.8 mk2 is cheaper to insure than a 1.8 mk3 so that seems like enough of a reason to me. faster and cheaper, let the search begin....

I would pick a mk2 over the mk3.
watch it now, a mk3 owner may question why!!!

Well the choice between a 1.8SPI mk3 or a 1.6 / 1.8 mk2 is simple it has to be the mk2, mk3 feels very flat.
i know i totally agree i was only joking after the stuff that kicked off when i started the Selling MK3s thread.

My first car was a Mk2 Golf 1.8 GL. So it was the 90bhp engine, which is plenty. It had the twin headlamp grill and sunroof. So long and you didn't mind the luxurious velour interior it was great.

The Mk2 Driver is a Mk2 Golf made to look similar to the GTI, (eg lights, sportier seats, spoiler) but with either the 1.6 or 1.8 carb engine, so it's cheaper to insure than the GTI.
