Quite off topic: What is that plastic bit that sticks out (above the wheel) which is attached to the bumper and the wing?
GTis on't have this. Just need to know if you don't mind, please.

That's the bit that stops road debris being spat up your bodywork. I don't like it myself but the R runs wider tyres so needs it (rather than modifying arches etc like an RS4 to cope).

Not totally sure tbh, but I think it is something VW had to do to stay within some EU regs or type approval or something.

As I said above the optional extra 19"' Talladegas are 8 inches wide and come with 235mm width tyres as standard.  I suspect this meant the tyres may have been slightly more "sticky out" than VW originally designed the Golf Mk 6 for.  Hence they had to add the little black plastic guards as an afterthought.
