No, not wetting the surface, should I? Also, how do you go about cleaning the pads? I know it looked like they were just sittng on the ground, but I had wrapped them in clingfilm so not to bad (I hope ) Do I just run the pads under a hot tap??

basicaly.....yes

i always have a bucket of water and a sponge, or a spray bottle of just plain water, just keep the surface wet it helps the compound to move, i find that when it drys out it tends to scratch intead of buff.

Just put a blob of washing up liquid on the pad, rub it in with your fingers and run it under a hot/warm tap.

hope this helps
