Yes I've stepped up to your level now, finally.

What a bell I am  :grin: All along I though the sensor was the 1 pin black one (the gauge temp sensor) rather than the white 2 pin one  :grin:
Unplugged it and it didn't start. Gave it a clean put it back together but still fluctuating so new one tomorrow.

Make sure the sensor you buy is the two pin white one.

scanned with vagcom and got an intermittent fault with the coolant sensor. Ordered it today from VW and it shall be here Tuesday morning so I'll pick it up then. Car is becoming harder to drive, stalls every so often and it's rough. Pops and bangs like a beauty though with all this extra fuel, my wallet is hating it though  :grin:

00522 -Engine coolant temperature sensor (G62)
27-10 - Implausible signal - intermittent

Then got the ABS right front sensor fault along with airbag as I knew, need to sort them two out.

Hi khare, can you please tell me if the temp sensor was at fault?

I've just converted my driver from a 1.8 to a 2ltr and I am, having both of your faults. The flactuating idle (only on start up) but also the temperature gauge is reading 100, but if you spit on the block it doesn't bubble off so I presume its not actually boiling....

The book of lies says that it may be a wiring fault of some kind.

Got a new sensor from VW but not yet fitted, fitting it tomorrow. Cooling system I've now sorted. By making a return pipe to the expansion tank it's now flowing sweet and fan kicks in as before, with the temp gauge at 90. You must have a blocked pipe somewhere, or airlock.

just to be clear here, there are 2 coolant temp sensors, the white 2 pin one is for the ecu and is what is throwing up the code in vag-com, the black single pin one is for the dash temp gauge. glad to see you have found the cooling problem, and hopefully sorted the idle issue at the same time :)
