Seen a couple of these GTDs now parked up in Leeds City Centre and I must say they look very nice. It'll still sound like a tractor though first thing in the morning which is why I abandoned diesel cars for the GTi.
I managed to just about scrape 400 miles out of the beast's last tankful but it's usually getting iffy around 360 ish. The fact that I might have got an extra 150 miles out of a GTD doesn't interest me in the slightest - I know which car I will have enjoyed more!!!

getting 150 more out a diesel doesnt intrest you? but driving your PETROL gti like a old fart to scrape 400 miles out does?

So **** off back to your **** Mk4!!!

Time for me to eat some humble pie.... I've just got 441 on a full tank.
Long motorway drive Manchester to North London (just inside M25) - a little bit of town driving then back up north.
Set cruise control to 69 there and back - no jams but a couple of 50\60mph roadworks but easy drives!
Computer stated ave mpg was about the 44mpg mark.
Very impressed as no way thought i'd ever get above 400 miles for a tank - but wow 441 at 70mph is good!!!

GTi mk6 manual - 5 door (also had air con switched on for the duration. For the m way drives - used cruise control for basically 99% of the time).
Had a fair bit of weight in the back (pram \ large case baby stuff etc etc) and had to fold down one of the rear seats to accomodate.
Thought we'd take the GTI to see how it was on a longish trip - very impressed fantastic drive, much better on m way than the mk5 was regarding noise levels etc.

It reinforced one thing to me - could never buy another car without cruise control.

The range means nothing!  It chops and changes depending how hard / light you press the pedal!

Could be wrong but guessing that 69 indicated on the speedo is nearer 66 mph. My speedo in the GTD over reads by around 3 mph based on TomTom.

I love it when the miles range goes up by 5 during a journey (using Tesco 99 Ron Super Unleaded and doing 70mph all the way); which means time for a quick blast on the roads.  (Yeah, I know, with a GTI I shouldn't be worried about petrol consumption.)

From my experience, I've also found the onboard CPU miles range fairly accurate through sensible driving, even down to the last 15 miles in the tank.
