Road racing?

Just wandering whether theres any events where they actually shut off parts of counrty roads to hold events and that members of the public can join in? Not just any old person obviously? Or does your car need to be kitted out for track use> roll cage's etc?

I do like the speedy drives around the counrty but never racing down them in fear of head on crashes.
Would feel so much safer knowing nothing is coming the opposite way and being able to drive my mk2 like it should:D

Closest you'll get these days is 12 car on open roads or Hillclimb/sprint on closed roads. Both those cater for production cars.

Better still are track days. Circuit or airfield, can use your road car and everyone is going the same way!

Oh have they been banned from the HSE then ! I would like to do a trackday someday id like to go up thruxton as that's reasonable close, really close to you. Have you been there before?, but would always think country road racing to be fun, more risk :D

Thruxton don't do days when you can run your own car which is a bummer. I take mine to Combe mostly, also done Silverstone and have plans to do Brands Hatch some time.

You do get closed section road rallys but you need a proper rally car that passes FIA regs etc.

Combe are running a VAG only at the end of July in association with VW Driver Magazine. It's pretty expensive for a Combe trackday as it's on a saturday but it has the advantage of being able to do just one session for £30 (I think) and see if you like it.

Erm nightime navigation rallyies ,OS service maps , B roads and total darkness ,its not about speed but arriving on time an planning the best route , BUT if youget lost you might have to make up time  :evil:

Oh right maybe ill give the £30 session a go.  12 car doesnt sound good at all lol max speed of 30mph!.

Im planning to go to ring one day, once my mate has got something a bit faster than a 1.1!
