Correct, according to my MOT chappie they can only advise that the dust cover/boot has perished.
Not to be mistaken for CV joint boots which are an MOT failure.

Engine mount now removed, had to grind down a 6mm allen key to get at one of the bolts but at least it is at now

Hmmmm, just called GSF and they no longer do the engine mount for the 1.8 engine, only the 1.6 :undecided:
Surely, as the block is the same, then a 1.6 mount should be OK. I've ordered it anyway and will take the old one with me tomorrow morning.
Anyone else come across this problem? I'm hoping it is just a discrepancy in their listings

Yeah I know CVs are a fail... luckily mine are good both ends of the shafts... Good to know the rack boot might just be an advisory though.  May leave it for now and sort it later but get the manifold wrapped in the mean time. You're nearly done then!

Just picked up the mount. It doesn't come with the housing but other than that looks exactly the same.
Fun and games now trying to press the old one out and new one in.

Heat shield matting has just arrived too

Heat shield matting fitted, engine mount fitted, MOT booked for tomorrow afternoon.
Shame to have it sat in the garage over this glorious weekend but hopefully there will be plenty more to come

Mk4 passed by the way

Thanks Shaun. Had a bit of a panic today. Went round checking all the obvious and found that the washers didn't work, rear number plate lights and horn! Only had a couple of hours before leaving for work tonight!

Washers turned out to be the stalk switch just needed the contacts cleaning and the rear number plate lights had a broken connection under the boot lid.
The horn seems to be drawing a lot of power, not sure why :undecided: I've managed to get it temporarily working by disconnecting one of them so it's not dual tone but at least it will work for the MOT tomorrow and then I can delve deeper later. I suspect there is a poor earth somewhere......the usual culprit.
