Out of interest, anyone know what happens in MOT if the light were completely removed.  surely they cant fail it for working if its not there ?

well managed to get the car through the MOT without fixing the rear led brake light.  was quizzing the dealer and he was saying that by the letter of the law during an MOT if it can be shown that ANY light on the car is not connected then the do not have to test it.  Sure enough it passed with a message on the certificate the rear led not tested as they couldnt be sure it was connected.

I may get round to fixing it at some point but at least I have another year of breathing space.

Just got stung by my local steeler.....high brake light not working failed MOT

New brake light and spoiler, paint etc £460 don't you just love the clown who designed this

I am a technical numptie and I did this fix myself using the guide. £30 for the parts from VW and mine just popped out without even having to break it.

DIY. Really easy job.

you truly got stung. 

before I fixed mine my MOT was due and i explained to the dealer that the light was broken.  with a smile he advised me that it can be broken and still pass the MOT under the assumption that it is not connected then it can't be tested and therefore failed.  Car passed MOT next day and I have since fixed it myself.
