Insurance as a result of options
« on: 23 April 2010, 16:36 »
I'm with Esure at the moment, but noticed on Gocompare that certain companies won't quote as a result of the factory options of Monza Shadows, parking sensors and RCD510 radio upgrade. Haven't called Esure yet but how did the rest of you get on when talking with Insurance companies? Was it no problem or were you met with a sharp intake of breath, followed by a stupid number

I am insured with Zurich and had no such problems. I got pretty cheesed-off with all the comparison sights and went through Lloyd Latchford my Insurance broker. It was bad enough waiting for the car. Handling the Insurance drama was 'A bridge too far for me'!

Factory fitted options are not classed as a modification with my insurance, my premium was untouched.

Well it only cost £60 to upgrade for the next 7 months from my previous GT TDI 140 (policy was £420).
Did do a quote a month or so ago and it came in at £620  with a £375 excess, but that is with 3 other people on the insurance, both my parents and did include my sister who is 25.  I have 14 years no claims (touches wood). That was legal, hire car, protected blah blah.  The reason I stick with Directline - UK call centres are worth paying for.

I agree, it's one of the reasons I went with Esure a couple of years ago. Notice their premium last year was on the high side, and I have a feeling they will be high on the GTi. Cheapest for me through Gocompare is £378 with Axa (£300 excess) or £396 (£200 excess). This is with legal protection, protected NCB, courtesy car, windscreen cover. Car I have now is lower insurance group and it was £420 this year with Esure. I bet I'll be shifting companies

Thanks for the help all.

Edit - just went to Axa site directly and its £331 with a £200 total excess!

If you go to axa via www.quidco.com you will get another £28 back.

I've found Aviva to be really cheap just now with their quotes. They aren't included in the comparison sites. But again if you go via quidco, you get a massive £70 cashback.
