Had the windscreen replaced today..
« on: 22 April 2010, 22:44 »
My insurance company would repair the chip in my screen, but would not replace it as the damage was tooo small. I asked them to replace it as I am sure its leaking. They said they would not cover leakages as its general wear and tear. tight fookers or what. (the thought of making the stonechip bigger didnt even enter my mind)  :lipsrsealed:

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?

I decided to get a local a1 windscreens to put a new screen in for 130 quid. They managed to break the sill trim, kink the trim that goes across the roof and down the sides of the windscreen, and there is so much excess bonding stuff round the screen that you cab see big blobs of it protruding from the pillar trims. Ive yet to see if it still leaks or not...

I had a massive stonechip on my last windscreen and the rest of it was quite pitted and scratched through age,  the insurance company only offered to repair the main stone chip ...so out came the hammer and turned the bastard thing into a rather tasty death crack that went through over half of the screen. Two days later and £50 lighter on excess i had a sparkly new screen fitted.

I'd just introduce the window to the hammer . . . . They cant exactly say your not aloud a replacement because you would be driving unsafely . . .

I had a new windscreen fitted a couple of months back because when they tried to repair a chip it stared to crack, and he said something about the laminate inside the window was leaking out too :-S . . . Just use the hammer to make a crack appear around the chip and say you hit a pot hole . . . .

Cool I'm with direct line aswell, screens just generally battered, loads of little chips and a couple of big ones which are going to develop into cracks.

Haven't got windscreen cover yet, so would I just ring em, take it out, and claim the next week?

How do you do it, just ring em first and they arrange it?
