Problems with instruments...?
« on: 05 April 2010, 16:15 »
I noticed today, having never driven in the dark.. that when I turn side lights or dipped beam on the icon on the instrument binnacle doesn't light up.. after a bit of investigation only the High Beam and Rear Fog light icon will light up...

Has anyone else had this problem? And is it easy to get fixed? I'd rather not have someone ripping apart my dash to fix it and end up squeek-tastic..

If i understand you correctly what your saying is theres no symbol in the instrument display to say you have your lights on or front foglights on? yes?

This is actually something i was looking at last night myself.
In the Instrument display i have no light on, display light.
In the Instrument display i have no front foglight light on, display light.
In the Instrument display i only have the rear foglight and main beam light on display/symbols.

But
If i look at the light switch the symbols in the light switch change colour when i have the front foglight on and/or lights. but don't for the rear foglight that symbol comes up in the Instrument panel. I found this a bit odd.

What I'm saying is, when I put my switch to sidelights, the sidelights come on, but there is no indication that they're on shown on the instrument panel, the same is true for dipped beam and front fogs (please not I don't drive around with my fogs on, i was just checking).

I noticed they change colour when I change the switch position but surely there should be an indication of which lights are on given on the instrument panel.. or dash... that thing..

AFAIK It is normal to have no indication on the in the cluster for side lights and dipped, can't comment on the fog lights as my mk6 isn't here yet, sorry.

I don't think VW's have ever had a warning light on the instrument panel for side/headlamps. It has always been on the switch. Warning lamps for high beam and rear foglamps are often on the instrument panel to remind you you've got them on, for obvious reasons.
