Some Product and general questions
« on: 30 March 2010, 21:34 »
Hello all,

I've got some Meguiars smooth surface clay (http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/195) to have a go at claying/detailing.  The car in question (Ford Fusion) hasn't been clay'd before.

I've got some Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint cleaner (http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/202), Deep Crystal Polish http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/204 and some Deep Crystal Carnauba wax http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/207 to play with post clay'ing.

So - I assume the order would be:
  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Cleaner, Polish and Wax

What should I be applying the cleaner, polish and wax with - seperate microfibres?

Do I need a sealent?  I've read about the Jetseal 109 and looks good.

If I am detailing a already-detailed-car, i.e. my GTI, is it the same order?  (it's not been clayed for 1-2 years or so)

Thanks!

James
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Wash
clay
quick wash again
cleaner
polish
seal with jetseal109 very good stuff
wax twice

get some applicator pads if your applying polish by hand it will give you better and a more even contact with the surface. 80mm spot pads are good for useing by hand and come in different grades.

if your gti hasnt been clayed for 2/3yrs then repeat the whole process above really, start a fresh basically

Hiya,

Thanks!  Wow thats even more work than I thought.

Any problems clay'ing a fibreglass body?  Also - does the clay remove the laquer?

There shouldn't be an issue with using clay on fibreglass and it won't remove the laquer.

Waxamomo don't have jetseal in stock (shame else i'd have ordered from them again!!), neither do they seem to stock applicator pads unless i'm looking at the wrong things.

Not bad, just not the quickest at sending orders out.
