You might be better off towing it then?! Or just go for it and hope?

I drove a car, that I had just bought, home without tax once (because it was a Sunday so couldn't just nip down to the post office to get it), and sods law had it that I got pulled. I was apologetic and exaplined that I had just bought the car, showed him the reciept etc, plus the car was MOT'd and insured. Luckily the copper was understanding and let me go again
Is the car on a SORN? If not and the car is untaxed and on the road i'm pretty sure they'll be less understanding, I wouldn't risk it!

I thought you could drive to a pre-booked MOT without tax, as long as you pay up for insurance.
You won't be covered for anything but going to and from MOT station, and any pre-booked repairs.

Plus not being funny, but you need a valid MOT certificate to buy a tax disc
So I'd also agree that as long as you have insurance then you should be ok.

i know this is gonna sound lame, but....i was watching police camera action once and they said that you can drive it to the mot station without a problem. I drove my old series 3 landy to the mot station without and mot but i did have tax and insurance.
