Early september 2009, needed a car and always fancied a MK3 GTI,  and saw this on the way to a party with my other (more sensible :) ) half, so stopped and had a look and all seemed well, so went back the day after with a friend who used to own MK2 gtisand we went out etc, and i parted with £825 for it, with history upto 108k and it showed 115k, the guy had spent a small fortune on it, and i had enough paper work to start a big a4 file, reciepts back to 1999.

These pics are the day after i got it

this pic shows where i was having a mess about with it,

first things were first, needed tyres, but only cos they were all odd and one was nearing the limit, so found some vr wheels with 200mile old premium contact 2 tyres on them, he had them on ebay for 180 but i mailed him and said, today is the only day i can come buy them how bout 140? he said cos i was coming a fair way take 120, so off i went in company car :) (as i still had it then) and picked them up,  rims not as good as i hoped but tyres were all spot on,

problem with one was cos they hadnt been used for a while and were knocking on the rim was leaking, so had to do sand down inside by hand around the edges to stop the slow puncture.

now looked like this

as i write this, cos its in the present and this was oct 09, i have since decided i want a set of originals like it had on, but powder coated white (as my friend has a new job where this is gonna be possible, if i refurb em myself) , which after my hol next week ill be keeping an eye out for, but first a bit of body work, (see later)

its now late oct early nov and i am now relying on it for work and commuting,  everything ok, taking it easy to get aquainted as i am well aware they are not quick at all, just nice to cruise around in.  I tried to overtake a arctic on motorway so give it a bit and hit the limit at 5k, which was interesting,

so after some time on here and buying vagcom lead and setting that up, finally sorted it out and was the hall sensor on the dizzy,  so i got a near new one with cap off someone on here; but i cant remember who it was for 45 delivered.  So i fitted it myself, eventually after panicing cos i forgot to look where the arm was, lol, i laugh now but at the time i was pooping it, work at 7am morn after, anyway long story short, initially it didnt solve it, but after vagcom and tweeking the dizzy bod i got reading perfect in middle of the range, and all cleared!   1st mile stone of work done by myself!,  never done anything before to write about.  haynes manual and you guys saved a life!! :) :)

not sure what happened next, so will just detail everything ive now done,

next was the rub strips down each side as previous owner had engraved quite badly the reg plate into them, so picked up another set cheap, funily enuff off the guy i got the car from, lol, off ebay,

so sprayed them black with satin black plasticote from b and q, primered aswell, 2 coats of primer and then 2-3 coats of black.

the home spray booth, lol, i aint got a garage

scotchbrited them so key the plastic lightly

1st coat of primer

2nd coat of primer

amp mount

shows a caliber amp, which i changed to a jbl half way through the build, lol

jbl fitted and wired up

note the panel on the front now which has holes in for cooling and is the shape of the original amp
also a relay to control the amp on and also the fan, and eventully a coloured light :)

amp rack closed and note the vw badge on the fan
