Oil leak on 16v
« on: 12 November 2004, 16:06 »
Hi,

When I first got my golf in march it seemed to be leaking a little bit of oil from the around the filter. I thought this was just the seal on the filter and that the up coming service would cure it. After the service I thought it was sorted but not the case. It has since had 2.5 litres of oil and is now coming up for another service.
Now either the seal on the new filter was not right too or Im think there is perhaps another problem.

Does anyone else have a guess to what it might be so I can point it out at the garage? I was thinking that perhaps as it is a high mileage car and it has had a few services in its time that perhaps the thread for the oil filter to screw into might be a bit worn and that could be causing the leak!!?? (But I could be wrong)

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Cheers

I would suggest just telling the garage and letting them see where is it leaking from, as it could be a bad seal, or a cross thread, but best leave it up to whoever does the oil change to look
