Kev, if you get stuck I will post up my cable and will happily talk you through the process (as long as you have access to a windows laptop), it's very very easy 

I read in the VagCom section on uk-mkiv's that each cable could only be used with one laptop - otherwise you had to have it re-assigned for about £100.  Is that p1sh?!  I was concerned that one day my laptop would die and I'd have to pay to re-register it with another one!

I'm about 100 miles north if you get stuck!  As long as you know what you need coded I can do it - as I'm a bit of a Vagcom noobie!!

Kev, the dealer probably would do it for you but charge an arm and leg. Especially if that is all it is going in to the garage for as you are taking up one of their avalaible slots. I think if you were getting it serviced or some warranty work done they would probably do it for free.

I'm sure someone on here mentioned £75 plus have the car for half a day!  I'd rather fork out and buy the VAG COM myself than give them that.

You would have saved about £12!!
The price quoted was missing VAT, so by the time it was added on it was still about £235.
I ended up just buing from MI - as they were £250 including free shipping, and it came with a disk, case and manual.  The GB one was JUST the cable.

Otherwise what would stop say 10 of us getting together and buying the lead and sharing it between us?

Haven't heard anything back.  I guess you could all chip in and post one back and forth to whoever needs it.  Not sure how well that would work with 10 people that you don't 'reall' know anything about though?!

Any regulars are welcome to come visit me in Aberdeen though... as long as they know what they want done!!
