HELP ME PLEASE!!!

can so;eone please help me out. heres how things go. bought A jvc hu for my mk3 golf gti 8v (previously a kenwood hu) took old hu out fitted sub and amp ran all cables correctly went to plug new hu in it powered up for about 2secs then cut out since had no power to amp/sub or head unit. i have had head unit tested and works fine also checked all fuse's and all fine. took it too halfords and they said there was no constant live, they tried swapping red/yellow wires around but no joy. can anyone help as going crazy without a bit of drum n bass/dubstep. lol also only know little about elecs e.g voltage check,continuity check.

try connecting both the red and yellow wires into one, there should be a double female bullet connector which will allow you do this with ease. This will determine you have a permanent live (somewhere) then go from there.

Your HU will not switch off by itself like this though, just so you know.

probably, it will either be on the red or yellow. I am not going to take mine out to check put it that way

I always thought it was the yellow but it doesn't matter as long as you connect both into one.

just to update tried this and nothing happened any more ideas got the clove box out for easy access! anymore help is much appreciated cheers.

well if this didn't work then either there is no power at all getting to the HU or the HU is faulty.

have you got a multimeter (silly question maybe) or another HU you could try temporarily?

tried a different head unit and can get hold of a multimeter. some 1 said could be the ignition switch? dont know if this would effect stereo?

what happened when you tried the other stereo?

If it was the ignition switch then connecting the wires into one would still make the HU work, this is in effect what connecting both wires bypass'. This is why I said if it works beware because you HU will not switch itself off.

my ign switch is gone and it has been wired up with 2 wires into one for a few years now.

nothing happend when connected other stereo either. so your saying wire in the live and the ground together then?

No, do not wire the live and the ground together.
All that will do, if you're lucky, is blow the fuse.
If you're unlucky you could end up with something that will be like the opening credits of Mission: Impossible.
He's talking about linking the switched and permanant lives together.
