MOT failure list (FAO Jay!) - fuel pump question

The GSF lift pumps arn't too shabby - I put one in a few months back and not had any problems. As RJ said they come with a filter too.

Use an oil filter wrench to shift the plastic lug on top of the tank.

pump assy has come out OK, the plastic ring unscrewed without too much hassle. Just got to make sure i dont damage the sender unit when disconnecting the old pump.

BTW the pump unit itself is TINY! didnt expect it to be that small!

the fuel pump has been swapped over and fitted in the car. the filter on the end up the pump was a different shape to the original which means the rubber straps either side to support the OE filter cannot be fitted to the new one... but it doesnt flap around very much so im not worried! 

the old pump was definitely broken as it wouldnt run with a 12v feed straight to the pump terminals. The new pump primes fine and the car seems to run ok, if a bit lumpy for the first couple of minutes after fitting... but whether this was production crap in the new pump or possibly a further issue with the car 

only time will tell!

hopefully it was just getting rid of the air in the fuel lines that caused it to run crap for the first few minutes, is it running better now?

hadnt thought about that. when i first fitted it, i let the pumps prime for a good 10 or 15 seconds (as the pumps prime off a separate switch). It ran fine for 10 seonds then i revved it... and it ran lumpy again. went back to it 30 mins later and it seems perfect now!

so hopefully the lumpyness was either a bit of crap in the new pump (from production) or air in the fuel lines?
