Engine swap info
« on: 14 March 2010, 13:34 »
I have 2 8v GTi's at the mo and I am wanting to do an engine swap

The shell I want to use is a 96 (N) and has an AGG engine with seimens ECU, this engine has done just short of 200,000 miles and the gearbox is fooooked!!!
I want to keep the after market Toad alarm with the keys (I have 2 sets for this car)

The donor is a 93 (L) with a 2E engine and Bosch ECU, this engine has done 100,000 and runs perfectly, its also a lot swifter than the AGG.

My main questions are -
1. can I just stick the 2E engine in and use my existing seimens ECU, keys and alarm???
2. If not, how difficult is it to get the donor ECU programmed to my Keys and alarm???
2a. Can I do the programming myself, I have all the vag-com, vag-tacho software, just need to buy the cable and someone to tell me how to do it
3.Are the wiring looms the same on each engine??

Thanks in advance.

hey  ben

mine is 2E, they are the best ones!!, you will need the ECU from the 2E, mine dont have no programed keys, and the ECU is not coded so their should be no problems

what is the doner car like? how many doors does it have, i mite need some bits off it to?

Bummer init!!!!
Both mine are off the road for the moment
You gonna sort me a set out at Mungo's then matey??

Getting back to the cars, will I have to get my Toad alarm re-fitted once I've swapped the engines over, there isn't a chip in the donor keys which means the ECU isnt coded yes???
Soooo, I should be able to use the existing ignition barrell and keys?!?!

Forgot to ask, do I need to inform the DVLA of the engine swap even tho they are basically the same engine??
Are they gonna ask for receipts an sh!t to prove its been done properly??
Will a valid MOT cetificate be proof enough after the swap is complete??

Should I change the mileage to the new engine mileage or leave it as the car mileage??
Cheers.

yo dude

dont think they need to know as its same engine matey and when my brother put a new engine in my old escort runner (same engine like your doing) he didnt have to say anything or provide any other info to anyone

you could run the early clocks or just leave your mileage if your not fussy, if you want them changed i know a guy in leeds that does it for 30 quid, he changed my annie dials to my original mileage, took him 5 mins!!

I would keep the milliage the same as the car to keep the MOT's running in sequence.

As for the engine, it might be worth just delcaring the change so the engine number matches up.
