When I brought my GTI (from a main stealer) I got a years extended warranty, it runs out in November. Would this cover the cambelt, and water pump change? Its an 05 plate, and its done about 50k miles, and I believe its one of the first batch of engine numbers the AXX ones (hope thats the right code). And do I need to listen out for any kind of rattle or knocking noise?

Sorry if I have stolen this thread.
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

There's a similar thread on MkVgolfGTi.co.uk, and a few of the members are using other VAG group dealers..

One guy uses a local Skoda dealer because it's cheaper and uses the proper bits! :afro:
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Warranty does not cover items that degrade through wear and tear - so no, the cambelt and water pump are not changed through warranty.

4 years or 60k miles is my understanding.

unless its arguably premature, mine was shagged at 25k and the dealer agreed that was not right and did it under warranty. At 50k its not likely to be done under warranty though.

Finally an answer from VW:

"Our Technical Team have confirmed that the recommendation for the Timing Belt replacement is 120,000 miles or every 4 years, whichever comes first.  If the water pump was to fail at a later date the same workscope would have to be carried out as for the
replacement of the belt  and so, it can be cost effective to have the water pump replaced at the same time as the belt."
