Hand Brake Gaitor

I want to get rid of my crappy plastic Gear stick & Hand brake Gaitors on my mk3 valver. I've just purchased some custom made leather ones (when I say custom made, I mean the colour, they're designed for a mk3), but not sure how to fit the Hand brake gaitor.
Has anyone done it before? maybe a few pics somewhere
Cheers
