Car steaming up

I live 7 miles from work, so my car gets fully hot when i use it, and i always have the heater set to cold for the first mile or so, to warm it up quicker. As soon as i put it to the hot setting, everything mists up, the screen, my clocks and even my CD player starts jumping.

Anyone know why this is?

If i leave the car parked in the sun, it mists up too, quite a lot, not just mist, but beads of water run down the screen! If i open the windows and boot, it clears in about ten minutes though. I dont believe i have a leak, but have yet to have a proper look.

Its really annoying, any advice?!

1, when its cold what else do you expect.... Hot air on cold glass it's bound to steam up!! Put the heater on hot straight away...

2, sounds like you may have damp carpets from a heater matrix leak at some point in the past, or you may have a water leak somewhere...

mine does a similar thing , my sunroof seal is on it's way west, which makes the carpets damp.. :sad:

I use an 'Air Dry' very successfully - Halfords do something similar I believe in the caravan section. Don't know whether they are of the same quality.

I would agree with the suggestion to put your heater on straight away and the blower on at a high setting. However, if it steams up when just sat there, I would guess you have a leak.

might be airbox is full of water from a leak into the blower hole under scuttle?

Thanks, some good ideas. I think water might be getting in under the scuttle, as the plastic cover by the Vin is dodgy, cheers for the idea John ;)
