Mainly because the door locks are on the handles? So I imagined they were connected to the locking system even though I've got remote central locking

On the back of the handle is a short rod that links in, but it slides out and leaves everything as it should.

This should help, no27 is the door lock now item 21 is a flat bar that pushes into the lock assembly, it slides out when you remove the handle (don't panic it is part of the ock assy.), you then fit a rear handle which has not got item 21 but the locking will still work 100%

dont yank on them, the rod has a little hook on the end, one of mine broke, and i had to rob parts from anothe rhandle, and some of the handles have diff size rods,

just bear this in mind  :-)
