Pot hole's & cracked alloy??

Where I live the bloody roads are full of pot holes due to the weather!! i find myself swerving all over the road to try and avoid them, but today i missed one and thud , checked my alloy all seems okay! what about the ball joints & suspension? Where does one stand in the eyes of a claim or law regarding the local council? How do you go about claiming if you have a cracked alloy? Any feedback on this issue would be great guys.

I go to Asia every year the roads are better there than in london!!

I think the way it works is that the council must have known and then fixed the pothole within a 'reasonable' timeframe.  If the pothole wasn't reported to them / spotted by their roads inspector  then they can't do anything about it.  If its weather induced (Aberdeen roads were pretty bad before but now the ice has gone they are like the surface of the moon) then your council will not have been outside the timeframe to fix them.

In short I don't think you have a legitamite claim at this time.

iirc you really also need to photograph the offending pot hole as part of your evidence substantiating your claim to the council.

I think it will be weeks /months before they repair most of these pot holes.Mate hit one in the dark the other night,blew the tyre & next day had a new one fitted & the garage put it on the ramp to check the under side & a broken spring as well.

I hit a pot hole last year that damaged one of my alloy quite badly and it was unable to be repaired.  I went back to the pot hole and took photos of the hole and of the damage the the wheel.

I found out which council were responsible for the up keep of the roads and wrote to them attaching the photos.

I then recieved a phonecall from the council asking me for a quote on replacing the wheel.  I sent this through and they sent me a cheque within weeks so i'd try that

My other half hit a raised manhole cover and damaged something underneath his car.  Rang the council and they sent him a claim form and asked him to take photos.  Within hours there were cones around it and the next day it had been repaired.
