The R and the RS are aimed at very different markets though.

Besides the R is over half a second quicker to 60 and will out handle it no problem. Even the Rocco R is rated better than the RS in the motoring press.

Nick

accordin to auto express the R cant match the RS in thge performance stakes.

and just for reference (unrelated to the mk 6 R) my mates ST out performes my other mates Mk4 R32

the fords are quick...

I would pick the Focus RS, better car, Golf is ok but a bit plain looking plus silly money when you spec it up.

I find that hard to believe! my mate has a focus ST and he could never live with the R32. In fact he puts his hands up and admits it a much better car, and if he could have afforded it, its what he would now be driving.

Had lots of plays with ST's and murdered them everytime. not even close.

hmmm dunno about that one mate, i mean i love R32's so much, but the bloody ST's are quick, map them and they REALLY fly, a 32 or gti wouldnt have a chance at all then..

(please dont jump on me as i am a huge fan of the R32 and still consider one for the next car, im just saying what we have experienced)

My mate was running 300bhp in his ST that was quick, he has a RS on order he was telling me they are in a different league driving wise.

He has had loads of fast Fords including a Escort Cosworth, he has ordered a white one, did not like the green.

I think standard R32 vs Standard ST would be fairly equal. With a rempa the ST will be quicker as the R32 is NA so no option for cheap power upgrades.

As for the RS Vs New R there are already reports of the new R in standard trim clocking 0-62 times well under 6 secs. It's been mooted with a remap and some tweaks sub 5 secs should be achievable. Now that is fast!

I'm not gonna slate the RS though as I think it's a cool car but I just wish Ford had developed some balls and made it AWD. FWD and a stoopid electronic diff isa real cop out on what's supposed to be a Ultra Hot Hatch. The Sierra and Escort Cossies (same car underneath) were truly epic but I the Foci just don't quite hit the mark in the same way and I suspect will not be remembered in years to come in the same way as the mighty Cosworth Cars.

Im not jumping on you.. but i have never had an ST even keep up with the R. so find that a little hard to believe. not from a standing start and certainly not around the twisties, and this was dry weather.

Not sure mk1 Focus RS did not do well in the road tests of the time but has a cult following now, they did plan on making the new one 4wd but did not due to cost reasons.

At the end of the day the Focus is £27k, Golf starts at £31k but with DSG, sat nav, leather and 19"s is £36k.
