Overdue Service?
« on: 06 January 2010, 18:27 »
I have been looking through all the posts about servicing etc and it got me thinking about my GTI. The car will be 4 years old in April this year. We have had the car in the family for about a year now and it’s only done 18,500 miles.

The last service was done on 21/10/08 at 8,417 miles at a VW dealer with the following items ticked in the book.
-Oil Change Service
-Interval Service
-Interval Service Inspection
-Long life engine oil used
-Brake Fluid service
-Dust and pollen filter insert changed
The service indicator has come on now but the service book says the next service is due in Oct 2010 or 28,000 miles

I know it’s better for the car to be on T&D servicing with the long life oil but should I book the car in now or wait until October?

I'd never let a car go 20k miles or 2 years between services.

if the service light is on, get it done ASAP!

MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Yep I have read this before. I guess my point is the car has not done many miles in 4 years. But even with that is it better to have it down yearly regardless of the mileage covered?

I would say then it's doing smaller journeys while not up to temp and cold starts, so T&D would be more suited?

Yeah I think T&D servicing going forward. Can anyone recommend a good dealer in Hertfordshire area?
