Thanks for the advice guys but I'm sure August to March is 8 months Mac7.

He's correct, it is 7.  You're classing 18th August as 1 month but you haven't been waiting a month until 18th September.

Hope you get sorted soon, its a pain waiting so long.

From what I have been told you are entitled to a hire car from your dealer after waiting up to 20 weeks for delivery of your ordered car and I've been waiting 21 so will prob stick in my precious Corsa VXR early and take whatever they have just incase of any mishaps with the VXR.

The car was ordered on the 18th of August 2009 and on ordering I was told a delivery date of December.  Called one day for an update and was told I should expect the car sometime in Feburary. My dealer phones one day in early December to let me know that I would be picking my car up on the 20th of January give or take. I called this morning for an update so I can organise time off work for collection only to be told sometime in MARCH!!!!  I am looking at having to wait 8 months for this car.

Anyone else had this problem?? What should I be doing now wth regards to the dealer because I hope you all agree that an 8 month wait is unacceptable. After todays news I am just thinking of cancelling because spending a good amount of money on this car and expect to be looked after but as of yet this has not happened.

Any advise is most welcome folks.

My car was ordered about a week after yours and was delivered December 22nd (sorry)

The dealer told me that some options were in short supply and were therefore adversely effecting build slots. The items that were the worst (at that time - October) were sunroof, Xenons and RCD 510 stereos. Not sure if you spec'd any of those options? I hadn't. Even so, I escalated the delay to Milton Keynes and they agreed to put my build on a "priority list". I am not sure what that means or how you get on that list (but I have a feeling that's where the VAG staff cars go!) but I eventually received a build week that was kept to. Stick with it - it is worth waiting for.

Ah pant's my car's spec'd with RCD 510 and Sunroof lol. However not had any calls from dealer about not getting the car on 1st March which dealer told me I could be 100% sure on or have it mid Feb. He must have a mate in VW's sheduling office at wolfsberg lol

You're not alone fella, ordered mine on the 7th August.  Was initially told 3 months, then given a build week of 46, then 45, 51, and now I've been on an unconfirmed week 07 build since the end of November.  Compensationwise - I'm picking up a loaner in a couple of weeks, as well as having my price at order confirmed with no addition due to the VAT hike.  If my build goes confirmed for week 07, then I might just see it the second week in March.

you make good music but your maths suck! Its 7 months from mid aug to mid march.Your much in the boat as most of us only you, like me was told a lot of horse-hit. 20 weeks qualifies you for a loan car direct from VW, not the dealers. Apparently VW own car hire companies so there wont be a shortage.I was told i would be getting one within the next week. I've been waiting since Aug 27th.

It must be a real sickener for all you peeps waiting for your cars.

I can only assume VW never realised how many would want a mk6 GTI, and therefore weren't prepared for the huge number of orders.

Myself and Simonpolly ordered our cars on 22nd May and took ownership last week in July, max 2 month wait!!

VW are taking the p**s now, but please all stay for the ride!! I promise you it's a great car and you won't regret it.

Best of luck to you all.

VW registrations for Dec ember were almost 15,000 cars, up 43% on Dec 2008.  That figure is inflated by people trying to beat the VAT rise of course, so Jan figures will no doubt be a lot worse, but its no wonder you are having to wait - 300 dealers delivery 50 cars each on average during December - pretty much 2 a day !

Overall sales are down 11% in 2009 vs 2008.

With orderbooks as they are you'd think they'd be ramping up production by now !

You are entitled to a hire car once you have reached the 20 week point from when your dealer put your order into the VW system.  It is the responsibility of your dealer to order the hire car for you through VW UK.  My salesman did it through his service dept on Monday.  In the afternoon I was called by Europcar asking where I would like my hire car delivered that same day.  I went for the dealers as I could then drop of my old car at the same time that evening on the way home from work.  VW UK hold an account with Europcar, they don't own them according the manager in the Croydon branch of Europcar, and they pick up the tab.  According to VW UK, if the dealer phones in the morning you will get your hire car the very same day.  You need to leave a £150 deposit with Europcar on your credit or debit card made up from £50 for the full tank of fuel and £100 as this is your insurance excess.  All the money is paid back once you return the hire car.  You are entitled to a car of similar size to your order, sadly not spec, so I ended up with a 80ps Golf Mk6 S.  Still, well put together and as I've never owned a VW before, at least a learning experience in the different swith and dial locations.

I hope this is useful as there seems to be a lot of mixed messages and conflicting information out there.  If anyone wants anymore info please ask.
