all sorted :d It WAS the earth at the bottom of the battery from the gearbox :D Thanks whoever suggested that. It seems to have sorted the indicator problem too, not sure why but it's sorted now so not too fussed. :)

neither, it was just stupidly loose. I could move the earth roughly 1cm up and down on the bolt lol.
