just swap the head for another, pistons are unlikely to have been seriously damaged by this, if so you would have to replace entire block anyway so either way it all good.

pretty sure all base 2.0 8v heads are same, but etka is confusing on this issue. looking at it, its only camshaft and thickness of valves thats diffo? i.e. as long as you get a complete head you're ok. not 100% sure on that, cant really make sence of what etka is telling me

i know what you mean, but then il have to let my insurance know. i know a company "midlands vw" i was thinking just rebuild the same one and possibily upgrading it.

Why would you need to tell your insurance company, you would only be fitting a replacment engine of the same spec.

wouldnt it void my insurance if something was to happen and they didnt know about the engine replacement?

We bought an ABF 2.0 16v to put into a corrado, but wanted to take the whole thing apart and rebuild it.
That website/guy just sold us all the parts for the rebuild.
The engine cost him £250 then spent £450 on new everything to go in it then £80 to get the head skimmed and have new valve guides fitted.
Put it all back together and its been running like a champ ever since
But what i would say to you, would be to just find a engine with decent miles on it same as yours. Then drop that in it as it will cost alot less.  Thing with broken valves are they can cause some nasty damage when they go, to the head, block and pistons.  It would be a shame to go out and get a new head to still have engine troubles when its finished

Should not make any difference with your insurance as you will doing (I hope) a like for like swap, just send the log book to the dvla for the engine number to be changed ane it will be fine.

as above, what I would do now is take the head off before you do anything, see what kind of damage has been done. if block looks ok, get a new head. if block looks damaged, get a complete engine.  just make sure its a later 2.0 8v block you get, the early ones dont have a crank sensor.
