I only got asked about GAP and paint protection as i collected the car - i asked the salesguy if he could do GAP for £104 (RTI Gap), the best i found online, to which he politely said No

If you are leasing a car, then the likes of supaguard, whilst a money earner for the dealership admittedly, might save you some hassle when handing the car back. If you're not going to wash n wax regularly then the likes of supaguard is OK for the lazy leasers, helping to keep some of the wear n tear less visible. But do it yourself for £20 rather than pay £300.
My dealer was OK throughout the whole experience, delivering the car as promised ahead of the VAT rise. Its the scare stories of lead times on the internet that had me ringing the dealer and VWCS every other week to check progress - this made no difference to my delivery timescales.
