Near death experience..

Ok so the story goes, had to drop my sister off at a friends house. Leave house, start driving, everything is fine.

The Isle of Wight is full of dodgy back roads which happens to be where my sisters friend lives. So notice the roads are getting abit frosty and seat was in normal position low down and reasonably far back.

To get what i thought have been a better view, i slid seat forward slightly towards windscreen only to find..

THE DAMN THING WOULD NOT LOCK IN and consequently when i accelerated my little legs could not reach the peddles as my seat flew back!

Now, i know you shouldnt adjust seat while driving, but im sure a few of us have all done it. So i was left driving along, albeit only about 15mph with no control as couldnt touch peddles, in the frost.

Have since had a look after driving home very carefully and very slowly.

The cable is still joined to the handle under seat that you pull up, but is constantly retracted and consequently seat wont lock in, i have tried wiggling and pulling cable about just to try to get it to lock in but no joy.

Maybe the cable has freyed inside sheath and is now stuck, i dont know. This just scared the living sh!te out of me.

Anyone had this before? And any ideas how to fix? Sorry about long post aswell

seat out is the only way to see what's up mate

i found a huge spring behind my drivers seat today  but seat locks evertyhing fine

ah the elusive spring. I've got one in my glove box too mate, along with a few bits of metal 

still not sure what it does but like you say the seat works fine so I'm not talking it out to look

What a pain mate, im sure its the cable getting snagged somewhere, but theres no room to look

+1 on that no way my seats coming off.. it was jolting a bit when i use to put my foot down or brake harsh but since i found "the spring" its been ok.. very wierd .. thats german biuld for ya ..bits will fall off but it will stil function

I take it thats its a bit of a mission taking the seats out then? Do we all definately think that the cable has freyed within the sheath to stop it retracting and therefore letting the pin hold the seat in position? Thats my logic but my logic also wrong alot of the time! Has anyone else had this problem?

it doesn't look too bad to take out TBH, i'm gonna have to take it out when I eventually get my new bolster though but it will hopefully have warmed up by then (or I will have got Rhys to do it)
