« on: 01 January 2010, 20:49 »
Hi All,

Can i just change the springs on the golf and leave all the other bits intact. Just the springs top achieve a lower stance. What would the ride quality be like.

Cheers

Dave

Ps. any recomendations for springs.

Hi Mate     I have a set of 40mm lowering springs for the Mark 2 Golf. They are in good condition with very little useage and are in the original box. I bought them for my Mark 3 but now want to go lower. If you are interested then just make me an offer for them.     Cheers     Deano

depends how low on your standard struts you go. i lowered my T4 60mm on standard struts but only because they weren't that old when i lowered it. thing is by running your car lower than the strut is designed means that you shrorten the stroke of the unit meaning its compressed already before you hit any bumps which shortens the life of said shock. if your just going down 40mm then it would be fine.

to be fair ive been running my T4 like that for nearly 2yrs and only now need to change my struts.

Welcome to the site.

Yes you can do it but your shocks will fail in the end as they are working on a shorter travel, much better to save up and get a complete kit.

Eibach Springs work well with the OEM dampers, although I would replace the dampers at the same time for some OEM spec Boge Turbo gas shocks, which you should be able to get from GSF.

I ran this setup for around three years with no problems.

If your going to go this route, look into Bilsteins streetline kit as they are marginally better quality dampers with matched springs. Should just about work out a tad cheeper too (Eibachs are expensive, though admitedly for a very good reason).

If you want to lower the car, then do it properly with the correct kit. Don't mix and match springs and shocks or you could end up with a dangerously unpredictable car. Plus, in the case of any accident, the insurance company could simply walk away.

Hey all, thanx for the replys.

Deano - Would you take £30.00 for the springs. If not what you looking for,

I could arrange a courrier! Id have to get some prices.

Also any help on posting pics.

Hi Dave     Yes would take 30 for the springs as they are just sitting in the shed at the moment. Whereabouts are you??   If too far you could arrange your own courier no problem with that Mate.  Let me know.     Cheers     Deano
