engine warning light
« on: 19 December 2009, 20:19 »
Hello guys and girls....
Just a quick bit of advice needed as i wanted to post this before i go out to the works Christmas doo!!! lol.
My engine warning light has just come on and when you start the car up, it splutters, stinks of petrol and eventually cuts out... Any ideas? My first thought was coil packs?! Havent tried it again as im very short on time!
Any suggestions welcome! Or if anyone has experienced the same issues?
My Golf is a 1.8t 25th Anniversary..

ideally if you can check for any fault codes with vag-com but that sounds like a coilpack

ok, so now im swaying towards the MAF sensor as i drove the golf today to work as i didnt want the hassell in the morning of traffic etc!!! Coil pack, i dont think thats the problem as it doesnt run on three.... Just extremely rough running and on start up again, the smell was awful! lol. I didnt let the revs go onto idle in fear of it stalling but tryin to pull away without it stalling was an issue... Was very jumpy and felt like it had a a million flat spots!!
just hope i can get it sorted 2moz at work cos R-Tech are coming down to me on tuesday and remapping and fitting a forge dump valve, which i cant wait for!!! Bloody cars!! lol.
Also, jus been reading a thread about thermostats...... My temp gauge is strange... Takes ages to warm up and then when driving sometimes will fall back down again! Sounds like mine has gone aswell by the sounds of it so may get work to change that aswell 2moz! Anybody reckon it might be worth doing?

As said you NEED to scan it for fault codes to find out what is going on

R - Tech will need it running 100% before thay map it.

If you have a laptop get a cheap vag com lead if not get a coder reader

defo sounds like you need a temp sender tho :
